Hard Rock Racing Exclusive Preview

Published on May 10, 2011, by in All, Previews.

I have been fortunate enough to procure a copy of Decane’s Hard Rack Racing which is coming soon for the Mac App Store. Hard Rock Racing essentially blends the rock genre with some awesome combat-stlye racing.

But you’re not going to be focussing on the pumping music as you struggle for control in the chaos around you as you play this hectic title. It is obvious that the developers threw a few racing conventions out the window for this one as you career uncontrollably round each corner, trying to avoid missiles and mines everywhere.

Hard Rock Racing puts you at the wheel of some sort of buggy equipped with some neat rocket launchers and mine droppers and then your put onto the race track with 9 other equally well equipped opponents and then the mayhem begins.

Bearing in mind the game is still in its beta stage, my first impressions are positive. Yes, there is quite a steep difficulty curve as it stands and there are other issues that prevent the controls from being pitch perfect at the moment, but the developer has informed me that they won’t stop before the game’s truly ‘awesome’.

With 2 game modes to choose from, Circuit – a normal lap-based race – and Sprint – a shorter, more frantic single lap race to the finish line – there are a ton of maps to choose from. Aside from that, the game is set to include online multiplayer however I have not yet got the chance to try that out yet because of the lack of people to actually play with.

Hopefully some of the bugs and imperfections will be ironed out before Hard Rock Racing’s release, and if so then I can see this being a popular hit. Watch this space.

Well, I got the game from the App Store and found it near impossible to play. Sure graphics and concept is nice, but after spending a few hours on the game I always ended up on the last spot. The other racers lapping me a few times in the process.

Granted, I am not a hardcore gamer, but there should be some kind of build-up in the game. The car is nearly impossible to control and you find yourself pressing the R button a lot. It took me a few tries before I figured out that I had to drive through each portal, otherwise the lap wouldn’t count.
