Feral Interactive and SEGA have announced a plan to release Sonic games for the Mac via the Mac App Store in the summer after the release of Mountain Lion next month. For now, the two titles that have been confirmed as arriving are Sonic & SEGA All Stars Racing and SEGA Superstars Tennis, but no firm release date or price has been confirmed.
Sonic & SEGA All Stars Racing

Sonic & SEGA All Stars Racing is a cartoony cart-racing game, similar to Nintendo’s Mario Cart series, where you play on an assortment of Sonic-inspired maps. You are able to play an assortment of SEGA characters, including Sonic himself, Shadow the Hedgehog, Alex Kidd, Super Monkey Ball’s Aiai and many more. As well as a single player career, there will be split screen multiplayer, as well as online multiplayer through Apple’s new Game Center which is arriving as part of Mac OS X Mountain Lion.
SEGA Superstars Tennis
As the name suggests, SEGA Superstars Tennis is SEGA’s arcade tennis game, also featuring a wide array of SEGA characters. Unfortunately there’s no multiplayer with this one, nor is SEGA Superstars Tennis aimed at being a simulation. Instead its aim is to bring crazy combos and special attacks to the sport. As well as the tournament mode, there are small mini games inspired by other SEGA games to get your eye in.
David Corless, Sonic Brand Director at SEGA Europe Ltd said that he is ‘incredibly excited’ about SEGA’s partnership with Feral Interactive, and that the use of ‘the latest Game Center technology will allow Mac gamers to experience thrilling online races of Sonic & Sega All-Stars; a SEGA title that is pushing a new and exciting progression in multiplayer gaming on Apple systems’.
It’s exciting to see such classic titles arriving on this new platform. There’s no confirmed release date, asking price or system requirements, but the games are set to release this summer.
