Making their source code free has left the developers of Lugaru HD, a rabbit combat game, in turmoil as another developer under the name of iCoder has used that same code and published the same game for a fraction of the original price onto the Mac App Store ($9.99 to $1.99).
Alex Matlin from iCoder protects his position and states that he has ‘every legal right to market and sell the software’. Wolfire games (the original creator of Lugaru) disagrees and are ‘not happy about this situation’.
The fact that Apple failed to notice the blatant clone and approved the app for sale on the Mac App Store, is astonishing, especially considering the flack the company is getting for being too strict in their approval process. The offending clone has since been removed but this still puts a question mark over how Apple’s eye to detail when it comes to approving apps.
